Webinar 1 (7 May):
Decyphering recovery of pulse performance

Performance recovery of automotive batteries found in weak condition is essential for restoring full vehicle functionality - particularly if the 12V battery provides backup power for safety-relevant loads like electric or assisted steering and braking. In previous editions of ALBA, we have established

  • that the power performance (state of function, SOF) recovers very fast in lead batteries while only a few % state-of-charge (SOC) may be restored --> this will allow full vehicle function to be restored long before SOC is back in a healthy region (so the vehicle should keep charging).
  • that two phenomena located in the positive PbO2 electrode carry this excess performance of freshly charged lead batteries: pseudo-capacitive behavior and potential uplift, of which the latter has a fa.
  • That negative-electrode charging kinetics is a crucial bottleneck for boosting these PbO2 effects so NAM improvements are a prerequisite for good SOF recovery

ALBA 2026 will show more than a dozen experimental studies on SOF recovery and charge recovery. Guided by Eberhard Meissner, we have significantly improved our understanding of governing mechanisms and structures.
To prepare your visit in Mainz, this webinar provides an overview of our understanding to date:

  1. PAM potential uplift
Structures and mechanisms that govern it (Eberhard Meissner) - password Mog*ntiacum26
New experimental findings (Miguel Garcia) - password Mog*ntiacum26
  2. PAM pseudo-capacitance

Webinar 2 (11 May):
Low-voltage battery market trends

This webinar presents extended versions of some key ALBA talks to better understand
how requirements and customer demand for 12V, 24V and 48V batteries in future automobiles are changing.

Please consider when planning your trip to Mainz: ALBA 2026 will feature a New Technology Seminar on Tuesday morning, 8:30-10:30, in addition to the regular Workshop program that commences at 11 am as usual. The get-together-event Monday evening is included in your registration.

  1. OEM views
Gunnar Ledfelt (Traton/Scania): Truck Trends, Requirements & Field Experience - password Mog*ntiacum26
Lorenzo Zolin (Stellantis): Automotive 12V trends, technologies, requirements, integration - password Mog*ntiacum26
  2. New technologies
Mike Miao (Leoch): 12V battery technology trends in China and Asia - password Mog*ntiacum26
Rolf Naumann: Do we need a 12V battery at all? Future Vehicle Power Distribution Networks - password Mog*ntiacum26
  3. Starting the roadmap discussion
Matt Raiford (CBI): goals for key performance indicators for automotive batteries - password Mog*ntiacum26
What are the gaps and roadblocks that battery suppliers should aim to overcome?

Webinar 3 (mid June):
Tools for OEM experts and battery application engineers

This webinar will present tools that aim to support smart application of lead batteries in modern vehicles. These tools were developed 2025/2026 in ALBA Plus projects, funded out of CBI and ALBA budgets.
